Scholarships were awarded last month by the Norman chapter of the University of Oklahoma Black Alumni Society.
Scholarships were presented to two students at the Awards Luncheon of the Ada Lois Sipuel Fisher Scholarship Golf Tournament.
The luncheon was held at the Lincoln Golf Course.
Lauren Roberts, who recently graduated from the Classen School of Advanced Studies, was presented with two scholarships.
The first was a $1,000 Dr. LaMona Evans Groce Endowed Undergraduate Scholarship.
She also received a $1,000 Ada Lois Sipuel Fisher Scholarship.
Ka’Tani Gouch, who recently graduated from 2019 Moore High School, was awarded a $2,000 Fisher Scholarship.
The scholarships are 50 percent cash and 50 percent tuition waivers.
It was announced that an additional nine scholarships (totaling $18,000) would be awarded to current University of Oklahoma students.
The nine undergraduate students will have their Fisher scholarships extended for the 2019-2020 academic year because of their academic performance.
Those undergraduate scholarship recipients are:
• Riley McGill, a fourth-year undergraduate and a graduate of Norman High School;
• Tierra Roundtree, a fourth-year undergraduate and a graduate of John Marshall High School of Oklahoma City;
• Dy’mond Combs, a third-year undergraduate and a graduate of Santa Fe High School of Edmond;
• Dominique Equarte, a third-year undergraduate and a graduate of Douglass High School of Oklahoma City;
• Esther McMillan, a third-year undergraduate and a graduate of the Harding Fine Arts Center of Oklahoma City;
• Rebekah Pope, a second-year undergraduate and a graduate of Mustang High School; and
• Chrisma Collins, a second0year undergraduate student and a graduate of Capitol Hill High School. Mr. McGill, Miss Roundtree, Miss Combs, Miss Equarte, Miss McMillan and Miss Pope are members of the prestigious OU Henderson Scholars Program, named for Dr. George Henderson, a retired University of Oklahoma faculty member.
